The library is staffed by a Chartered Librarian. Students are allowed to borrow three
books at a time and, like most libraries, there is a system of fines in operation for
overdue books. The tariff is posted in the Library, the maximum fine being £2.00.
We use an automated system for the issue of books, using a Biometric Fingerprint Identifier.
There are thirteen networked computers available where students are able to access
work done in other areas and a stand-alone used mainly for Careers work. The Careers
Library is also housed in the School Library and contains a comprehensive range of paper
and computer-based materials ranging from career information to details of Higher and
Further education, all of which is updated annually. There is also a wide selection of career
based video tapes.
The Library is available for Sixth Form Private Study unless a member of staff has made a
pre-booking. Those members of staff wanting to use the Library with teaching groups
must book in advance so that Sixth Formers can be advised to use a private study room.
A photocopier is available for individual copies of materials and the cost is 5p for an A4
and 10p for an A3 sheet.
There is also a selection of Video Tapes of classic films, set texts and pre-recorded television
programmes available for Sixth Form students and staff hire.
Members of staff are always welcome to discuss with the Librarian any resource needs
they may have.
