Pupils feel very safe at school. They behave well in lessons and know that teachers expect them to work hard. Parents and pupils said that bullying is rare and, if it does happen, the staff deal with it effectively. (Ofsted, February 2020)
We recognise that all staff and governors have a full and active part to play in protecting our pupils from harm, and that the child’s welfare is our paramount concern.
Our school should provide a safe, caring, positive and stimulating environment that promotes the social, physical and moral development of the individual child.
- To support the child’s development in ways that will foster security, confidence and resilience.
- To provide an environment in which children and young people feel safe, secure, valued and respected, feel confident and know how to approach adults if they are in difficulties.
- To raise the awareness of all teaching and non-teaching staff of the need to safeguard children and of their responsibilities in identifying and reporting possible cases of abuse.
- To provide a systematic means of monitoring children known or thought to be at risk of harm, and ensure we, the school, contribute to assessments of need and support plans for those children.
- To acknowledge the need for effective and appropriate communication between all members of staff in relation to safeguarding pupils.
- To ensure the school has robust systems in place for ensuring that true and accurate records of events are kept and appropriately stored, and to ensure that any such records clearly differentiate between fact and opinion.
- To develop a structured procedure within the school that will be followed by all members of the school community in cases of suspected abuse.
- To develop effective working relationships with all other agencies, involved in safeguarding children.
- To ensure that all staff working within our school who have substantial access to children have been checked as to their suitability, including verification of their identity, qualifications, Prohibition Orders for teachers and a satisfactory DBS check and a single central record is kept for audit.
